If you’re family is like ours then right behind your mortgage payment, the most expensive monthly expense is groceries. I wish there was a magic answer in how to save money on groceries but it’s really just basic common sense. Here are 9 tips to start saving money on groceries.

1.) Have a weekly meal plan – this way you can stock up for your favorite items when they are on sale and know you’ll need them again soon.
2.) Always use your coupons. Consider getting a good coupon organizer to keep your coupons easy to find.
3.) Stick only to items on your meal list.
4.) Don’t shop when you’re hungry. That way you won’t be tempted to buy those cookies you don’t need.
5.) Shop alone – kids like to throw extras in the cart. As a stressed mom this might not always be possible but it also can be a mini break!
6.) Only buy things you know you’ll use. For example, if your family doesn’t like broccoli, don’t buy broccoli in the hopes that your family will magically start eating better.
8.) Don’t be afraid to by a store brand – it’s usually the same quality as a name brand.
9.) Also check what you have at home before you leave the house. How many times do you get to the store and think “wait do we still have ketchup?”
Often it’s the small steps we do that can add up to big savings. Don’t think that little changes don’t matter over. time it all adds up.
