When you work from home, it can sometimes be pretty difficult to pull yourself out of a rut. Not everyone is lucky enough to have space for an office, but most of us have a little corner tucked away that can be given a whole new purpose in your life. Having somewhere that is dedicated only to your happiness and relaxation is pretty essential. It means that you can train your brain to associate that spot as being a ‘work free’ zone.
Here are a few tips that will help you get that little space ship-shape in no time.
Having something that you can sink into like a giant hug is brilliant. Something that can accommodate a number of sitting positions, perhaps even laying down. So that you can lay or sit however makes you comfortable. Hit the internet to find out more about the perfect relaxation partner.
A warmly lit corner will give your eyes a chance to relax after staring at your notebooks and screens for hours. If you can, make sure that during the day the little corner is seeing a decent amount of daylight too. So when you need a fix, you don’t have to work too hard to get it.
You could have a notebook, a whiteboard, a chalkboard or just some post-it notes. Keep them close to the comfortable chair, so that while you let your mind wander, you can write down any of those genius ideas quickly.
If you don’t have one, you should check out some Pinterest boards on some great methods to create your own. If you do have one, here is a great place to have it. So that when your mind is processing things from your day, all of your main goals are right there in front of you. Reminding you that the long days are totally worth it.
If there are authors whose words inspired you to do better, then have a pile of their books to hand. Spend some time marking the pages that mean something to you and when you hit a slump and need some help pop open the pages and lift your spirits.
Print some of your favourite quotes off and put them up where you can see them.
Ask your friends who are coaches and mentors what books they would recommend for you to get too, so that once you are done with the ones you know you love you can move on to something fresh.
No one is suggesting that you spend hours and hours straight away meditating, but start with around 3 minutes of slow and steady controlled breathing. Try and clear your mind of everything that is clouding it, and have a couple of minutes of peace. There are a few apps that you can use to help with this. Calm and Headspace are very popular, but you might find some music that suits you much more, and maybe you’d prefer nothing guided.
Inspiration can come from anywhere, but it is much harder to cultivate when you aren’t giving yourself time to relax and refocus on what it is that you want.
